These cars get a lot of hate, but I think they are tremendously under-appreciated. Do you think these will ever reach classic status?

I think so, you can modify them into pretty powerful cars with limited effort, eventually it'll get there.

Probably not - the '80s sucked and stock (where a collector car keeps its value) they were nothing to write home about.

I loves me some 3rd Gen F-bodies. I'm partial though 'cause my first car was one. I intend on getting a bitchin' IROC with T-Tops some day

I can MAYBE see some TPI cars and IROCs (and ASC convertibles, due to the low production) being "collectible" some day, but not to the extent of the 2nd gens, which JUST started commanding decent money.

Once all the 60's and 70's classics dry up, the 80's are going to be the next bargain car to skyrocket, if trends continue.

Perhaps, but to a younger audience that's captivated by the styling and the image, the performance might not matter so much. Particularly once they're old enough that the subtleties of how they compared to their contemporaries are much more difficult to discern.

They'all need to go through an ironic hipster appreciation phase first, then played out, then another ten years of being forgotten. I give it about twenty more years, could be as low as 15.

oh that image...I know someone that has a bone stock Iroc with 25K on it, manual, and that one gets driven a few times a year. Is it a classic, sure

They already do to an extent. Some 3rd gens are appreciating in value and are pulling an "OK" buck. Usually 87+ IROC/Z28/1LE/GTA/TTA cars.

these will always be the unloved generation of F bodies. I love them. Great looking car, handled really well stock but gutless wonders in the horsepower department.

I only think the 87-92 350 engined manual cars will ever achieve any special status. But at 225hp, they wont achieve anything special of note beyond what the fox mustang has in 5.0gt form. it's natural competition.

By far my favorite gen F-body. Yeah they do get a lot of hate, and yes they will be classics.

I read something about classic and sportscar values the other day in GRM and they said that 3rd-gen IROCS are starting to head north... At almost $13k now for a 2-level example.

I'm currently dropping an iron 408 stroker in my 2000 SS... Can't wait til it's done.

That's what I would think too... Grab the latest issue of Grassroots Motorsports and see what it says about 3rd gen values.

Wait I was under the impression that only 305 Cars had a Manual? Are the 350 cars Non-world class T-5s just like the 305s?

Oh i think you're right. I went and looked. I assumed it would have it and then after reading, I learned that if it did have a t-5/350, it would have been faster than the vette. So, can't have that. The rarest one I think would be the 1LE package. that was SCCA showroom stock ready. Only a few hundred a year made with that.

Plus I bet a NWC T-5 would not handle the TQ of the 350s. Even the World Class T-5s in 5.0 Mustangs are barely up to handling stock TQ (Just look at my SN to find out why I know LOL)

Heh. I bet you're right. Other discussions i found mentioned that point where GM wouldn't be able to warranty that combo, or others saying it wouldn't have made emissions.

When I was a kid, we had two Camaros as the only cars in the household. Dad had a '91 RS hardtop, and Mom had a '96 V6 T-top. Both in teal. Family trips were a bit uncomfortable being wedged in the back seat, but it was fun.
